Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) is a training method to partially restrict blood flow into the muscles while completely restricting blood flow out of the muscles (before, during, or after exercise).
BFR allows for significantly more metabolic stress (a primary component of hypertrophy and strength gains) using light resistance training…while getting results comparable to traditional heavy resistance training.
This is great for:
- patients who cannot tolerate heavy resistance training due to muscle atrophy, decondition, strength loss, and other functional impairments from injury or surgery
- taking hypertrophy, aerobic fitness, strength, and recovery to the next level
Make sure you are using BFR safely with a licensed physical therapist. The PT’s at MOTI frequently utilize BFR training as part of physical therapy and/or personal training sessions.
