Athletic Recovery Services

During treatment sessions, our Physical Therapists and Personal Trainers utilize evidence-based modalities to help advance athletic recovery. These modalities include NORMATEC compression therapy, COMPEX neuromuscular stimulation therapy, and THERAGUN vibration therapy. Outside of scheduled private sessions, we also offer access to these modalities at our Recovery Lounge. For a flat fee of $25, clients can access and utilize these modalities under the supervision of our qualified PT Aids.

NormaTec Compression Therapy

(from normatecrecovery.com)

NormaTec is the leader in rapid recovery—our systems give a competitive edge to the world’s elite athletes, coaches, and trainers. Our goal is to establish recovery as an integral part of every athlete’s training, and we feel NormaTec systems are the best way to accomplish that. The NormaTec PULSE Recovery Systems are dynamic compression devices designed for recovery and rehab. All of our systems use NormaTec’s patented PULSE technology to help athletes recover faster between trainings and after performance.

Our systems include a control unit and attachments which go on the legs, arms, or hips. They use compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery with our patented NormaTec Pulse Massage Pattern. When you use our systems, you will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are molded to your exact body shape. The session will then begin by compressing your feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on which attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.

COMPEX Neuromuscular Stimulation Therapy

(from compexusa.com)

Simply put, electric muscle stimulation trains your muscles in a way that traditional workouts alone cannot. It is a “best kept secret” many elite athletes and fitness enthusiasts use to enhance their workouts and training programs. Electric muscle stimulation (EMS) — also known as neuromuscular electric stimulation (NMES), muscle stim or e-stim — sends electronic pulses to your motor nerves in order to create muscle contractions.

When Compex electric muscle stimulation is added to your training, it helps maximize your muscular effort by engaging a greater percentage of muscle fibers. Compex targets both Type 1 slow twitch muscle fibers which impact endurance and Type 2 fast twitch muscle fibers with impact power and explosiveness. Compex can help your training efficiency allowing for enhanced fitness results.

Compex has multiple post-workout programs available to jump start your Recovery. The different programs are designed to bring fresh oxygen and nutrients to the muscles to facilitate the flush of toxins, helping you to recover faster.

TheraGun Vibration Therapy

(from theragun.com)

The TheraGun is a lightweight, battery operated, easy to use muscle treatment device that increases blood flow, decreases lactic acid and interrupts the pain cycle. … It was created for athletes or anyone with muscle pain. The TheraGun’s AmpBIT attachments use a strong percussive force on the muscle that creates intense blood flow to help the muscle recover without the pain normally associated with deep muscle treatment.

Studies on chronic pain have showed that deep brain stimulation at frequencies of approximately 30 Hz can produce analgesic effects. The TheraGun’s reciprocating motion runs at a higher frequency (35-40 Hz) than chronic pain (25-30 Hz) with an amplitude of ½ inch. The nervous system’s hierarchy is programmed to pay attention to the higher frequency stimulus over the pain stimulus. This is important because the TheraGun’s vibration and amplitude on the body send signals to the brain faster than pain signals can travel. This high frequency vibration actually overrides pain signals. Therefore, for a period of time, pain is significantly decreased.
